Do you want to direct a One Act?

Laurel Mill Playhouse is having 2 weekends of One Acts written by Dr. Jim Wise. The One Acts will perform on;

Friday, June 8th at 8pm
Saturday, June 9 at 8pm
Sunday, June 10th at 2pm
Friday, June 15th at 8pm
Saturday, June 16th at 8pm
Sunday, June 19th at 2pm

One show will also be performing at Riderwood at 2pm on June 23rd.

The Intensive Experience:

Week 1: June 3, 4, 5

  • How to prepare for an audition (picking the right song/monologue; preparing the song/monologue; cold-readings from the script; dance auditions; how to dress and behave at an audition; resume)
  • Participants will have the opportunity to meet with seasoned performers from the area in order to get individualized advice on auditioning.
Week 2: June 10, 11, 12

  • June 19—the Audition! Everyone in the Intensive is guaranteed a role in the show, but auditions for specific roles will happen at the beginning of Week 2. (Those with no rehearsal/show conflicts will be considered first for lead roles.)
  • Vocal Technique—learn breathing techniques, vocal warm-ups and the basics of reading music
  • Acting—discover techniques for bring your character to life; how to memorize lines

Week 3: June 17, 18, 19

  • Blocking—begin to learn how to move around the stage
  • Vocals—apply the techniques you learned to the show songs
  • Dancing for the stage—learn basic dance steps that will come in handy for any show.
  • Acting—apply the techniques you learned to your show character

    Week 4: June 24, 25, 26

    • Blocking/Vocals/Acting—continue to learn and refine the blocking, songs, and dialogue from show
    • Dancing—apply the techniques you learned to the show choreography
    • Costume and Set Design—workshop ideas about costume and set design for the show. Begin to create both costumes and set.
    • July 4th Parade!

    Week 5: July 1, 2, 3

    • Blocking/Vocals/Dancing/Acting—continue to learn and refine the blocking, songs, choreography and dialogue from show
    • Costumes and Set—continue to work on costumes and set

    Week 6: July 8, 9, 10

    • Blocking/Vocals/Dancing/Acting—continue to learn and refine the blocking, songs, choreography and dialogue from show
    • Costumes and Set—continue to work on costumes and set
    • Tech—workshop on lights and sound and special effects
    • Hair and Make-Up—tutorials on Hair and Make-up for the stage and for the show in particular

    Week 7: July 15, 16, 17

    • Off Book for the show!
    • Complete costumes and set. Costume parade.
    • Practice Hair and Make-up for show.
    • Prep for Tech Week: what to expect…

    Week 8: July 22, 23, 24

    • To be determined

    July 29 – August 2nd (Sunday through Thursday): TECH WEEK*

    • Run the show in costume each night.
    • Incorporate lights and sound.

    *Parents/Guardians are expected to volunteer for at least one tech week rehearsal and/or one performance.

    Sunday, August 5: Call time at 1:00pm; show time at 2:00pm

    • Set Strike/Clean-Up and Cast Party immediately following the final show.
