Days before Christmas, George’s boss at Hammerschidt’s Parfumerie fires him after mistakenly suspecting him to be the lover of his unfaithful wife. Meanwhile, George’s own love life goes awry when he discovers that the stranger he has fallen in love with through a secret correspondence is none other than Amalia Balash, a co-worker with whom he constantly feuds. For the employees of the Parfumerie, only the truth can lead to a happy resolution in this old-fashioned, romantic Christmas tale. This version of the story was adapted by E.P. Dowdall from the play Parfumerie, originally written by his uncle Miklós László. This is the original play that the Musical She Loves Me and the movies, The Little Shop Around the Corner and You’ve Got Mail spun off from.

Auditions will be reading from sides. 

Here are the character descriptions, gender specific if indicated.

Miklos Hammerschmidt – Male presenting; owner of the Parfumerie, age 60s. Fond of his employees but quick to jump to unfavorable conclusions.

George Horvath – male presenting; 20’s-40’s, clerk who takes his job very seriously, a bit unfair to less senior clerks, oblivious to the possibility of love in front of him. 

Mr./Mrs. Sipos – older clerk, a caring and wise friend to George who also cares for Miklos.

Steven Kadar – male presenting; 20’s-40’s, clerk, haughty womanizer and scammer.

Amalia Balash – female presenting; 20’s-30’s, clerk, sensitive and romantic.

Ilona Ritter – female presenting; adult, clerk, no qualms with going to movies with a man other than her fiancé.

Elizabeth Molnar – older; cashier, very competent.

Arpad Novack – young adult, delivery person with ambitions.

Fritz – young adult, delivery person.

A Detective – adult, conscientious

A Policeman – adult, friendly but stickler for the rules
